What the owner says
When we bought Frieze Cottage we were living in South Weald, which was still in the area we liked due to the open countryside. It was a beautiful cottage and just right for our needs.
We altered quite a bit, built the breakfast room with the lovely roundel ceiling lights, fitted out the kitchen with the oak cupboards and had the Aga put in.
We then put all the frieze around the lounge and fitted the cupboards all in oak.
We built the back porch and upstairs bedroom and bathroom.
All the marble in the entrance porch is from Chelmsford Cathedral that John bought me when the council guttered it. Also the small gate in there is a part of the altar
We built the study and library which was then a stable with groom's accommodation above.
The swimming pool was already there but we made it smaller to cater for the sun lounge and shower room.
I think you will find on the deeds that this property dates back to about 1512. It was an Agricultural Cottage for Frieze Hall Farm.
